Boone Brian Michael (Schultze Boone & Silva)

Bio: Brian M. Boone, CPA, ABV, CFF, CVA, CFA—In 1996, Brian M. Boone joined the firm of Schultze, Wallace & O’Neil (SWO) as a manager. Soon after, he joined David Schultze as a principal shareholder in Schultze, Boone and Associates. Boone has been qualified as an expert and has testified in court in multiple counties in California and three counties in Nevada on all aspects of family law litigation, and also providing economic damage calculation in personal injury, wrongful termination, and wrongful death civil actions. He has also served as a court-approved turn-around consultant to debtor-in-possession in a large Chapter 11 (reorganization) bankruptcy, has provided valuations for transactional purposes, and has been retained to provide other general business consultations. Boone earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and accounting from Claremont McKenna College, after which he began his career with Touche Ross, assisting in the audits of large commercial entities. He later joined Western Sunrise Mortgage Corporation (WSMC), where he served as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In 1997, Boone received his master’s in business administration with concentrations in both finance and marketing from the University of California, Davis.

Burak Charles Anthony (Burak & Associates CPAs)

Bio:

Charlie A. Burak is the managing partner at the firm, Glenn & Burak, LLP in Walnut Creek. He is a Certified Public Accountant, Accredited in Business Valuation, Certified in Financial Forensics, Certified Valuation Analyst and a Certified Fraud Examiner. His practice focus is forensic accounting, business valuation, income tax and consulting services for individuals and privately held companies. He has served as individuals’ and courts’ expert in family law cases.

Burak is a graduate of the Leadership Contra Costa program. He is chair of the CalCPA State Family Law Section and vice president of the East Bay Chapter of the CalCPA. He is also chair of the Information Technology Committee of the East Bay Chapter. He has written articles and lectured on fraud, business valuation, personal finance and forensic accounting topics. Burak has a wife of 10 years, and two young children. He earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico. He is an avid fan of most sports, particularly when played by teams from Chicago.

Bio:

Garret C. Dailey is a Certified Family Law Specialist (CFLS) emphasizing appeals and consultations. His office is in Oakland. He has been a member of the faculties of the University of California, Davis School of Law, Golden Gate University and the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow in both the American and International Academies of Matrimonial Lawyers. Dailey is co-author of Attorney’s Briefcase treatises on California Family Law, Evidence, and Children and the Law. He is also co-author of Lawgic Marital Settlement and Pre/Post Marital Agreements and the author of SupporTax.

Some of Dailey’s recent appellate cases include Marriage of Valli, Elkins v. Superior Court, and Marriage of LaMusga in addition to many appellate court opinions. He was named the CalCPA Education Foundation Outstanding Conference Speaker in 2005. His other distinctions include the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award by the State Bar of California, Family Law Section; the Association of Certified Family Law Specialist’s Hall of Fame Award; and the Brandeis Award from the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He was named the 2006 Family Law Person of the Year by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Southern California Chapter; listed in The Best Lawyers of America; and selected numerous times as one of Northern California’s Top 100 Lawyers by Super Lawyers magazine.

Darlene L. Elmore, CPA, ABV, CFF has over 28 years of experience as an accountant and has worked in public accounting for the last 23. With an office in Santa Rosa, her practice is focused on providing forensic accounting analysis and services and business valuation, with a special emphasis on family law matters. In addition to her certification as a CPA, she is Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) by the AICPA.


Hodgen Philip D.W. (HodgenLaw PC)

Bio:

Philip D. W. Hodgen is the principal attorney for HodgenLaw PC, which specializes in the international tax arena. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Claremont McKenna College and his juris doctor degree from the School of Law at the University of California, Los Angeles. He went on to earn a master of laws in taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law. For six years as a youth, he lived in Rhodesia, South Africa and New Zealand.

Admitted to the California Bar in 1982, Hodgen spent nine years in law firms and with a large U.S. bank before starting his own firm in 1991. He is a past chair of the International Tax Committee of the State Bar of California’s Tax Section, and was a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar of California’s Tax Section from 2004-07. He is on the Organizing Committee for CalCPA’s International Tax Conference and its annual Tax Update and Planning Conference. Hodgen frequently speaks on a variety of international tax, trust and estate topics to attorneys, accountants, bankers, and real estate professionals.


Miod Donald John (Miod and Company LLP)

Bio:

Donald Miod is the founding partner of Miod and Company, LLP. He oversees all aspects of the company’s accounting, tax and litigation services. His professional experience includes 43 years of hands-on experience in all phases of closely held entertainment, manufacturing and professional service businesses, from accounting and auditing services to advising the board of directors. His vast background includes developing leading proprietary asset tracing models, several professional certifications, published articles and speaking engagements at professional conferences. He is a prominent member of several industry associations and a significant contributor to state industry conferences, and was voted one of the top 25 CPAs in the San Fernando Valley and is the recipient of the CalCPA Family Law Section’s Distinguished Service Award.

Miod has served as a mediation consultant and court -appointed expert witness for marital dissolutions; former chair and co-chair of the CSCPA Family Law Conference; past member, board of directors, Valley Industry & Commerce Association (VICA); instructor, California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA); instructor, University of Southern California (USC); instructor, California State University, Northridge (CSUN); member at large, CalCPA Litigation Steering Committee; volunteer mediator, Los Angeles County Downtown Courthouse; and volunteer mediator, Van Nuys Courthouse. Miod is a member of the CSCPA and its Business Valuation Section of the Litigation Services Section of the CSCPA, the AICPA, the International Society of CPAs, the Institute of Business Appraisers, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and the Association of Certified Fraud Specialists. He is an associate member of the San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills Bar Association, and a former chair of the Family Law Section of the CSCPA’s Litigation Services Section. He has served as a speaker to the CSCPA on Family Law, Business Valuation and Litigation Consulting; local CPA discussion groups; and the San Fernando Valley and Beverly Hills Bar Association. Bio: Eileen Preville is an attorney in Oakland, her practice limited to mediation and serving as a private judge in family law and family law-related matters. Ms. Preville is certified as a specialist in family law by the State Bar of California and is an associate member of the CalCPA's Family Law Section. She frequently speaks at the CalCPA Education Foundation's annual Family Law Conference and various other local and statewide bar association programs. Read Donald H (Certified Tax Law Specialist)

Bio: Donald H. Read, Esq., is an attorney and Certified Taxation Law Specialist whose practice for the last 25 years has focused on advising family law attorneys on tax problems arising in the resolution of marital dissolutions. He was Chair of the Taxation Committee of the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association from 2008-2011 and has been selected as a Northern California Super Lawyer for 2008 through 2013. In May 2010, he obtained a ground-breaking private letter ruling allowing registered domestic partners to split their community income on their federal income tax returns. Read assists family law attorneys in structuring marital settlements; drafting tax-sensitive provisions of agreements and stipulations; preparing orders and agreements; dividing stock options; retirement plans (non-governmental QDROs and non-qualified deferred compensation DROs) and IRAs (§408(d)(6) instruments); reviewing marital settlement agreements; participating in negotiations and hearings; applying for private letter rulings; and general tax and business consultation. Read has qualified as an expert witness in the Superior Court for Santa Clara County on stock options in marital dissolutions. He earned his juris doctor degree, cum laude, at Columbia University and his master of laws degree at New York University, and served as an attorney-advisor in the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Tax Legislative Counsel in the mid-1970s.

Salvador Jeremy (Miod and Company LLP)

Bio: Jeremy Salvador is a manager at Miod & Company, LLP where he specializes in forensic accounting for civil and family law litigation. Prior to starting his career in public accounting, Salvador started a web and technology consulting practice for small to medium-sized businesses. At the age of 16, he was the youngest member of his chamber of commerce and was recognized as a local authority on emerging web and mobile technologies. He has been published by the State Bar of California’s Family Law News, Valley Lawyer, Gizmodo, Engadget, and MacRumors. Salvador is a member of CalCPA, where he is active in the Family Law section and the Young and Emerging Professionals (YEP) group. He holds a certificate in management, an associate’s degree in business administration, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting with a minor in finance from California State University, San Bernardino.

Bio: James R. Thompson has been practicing family law since 1991. He received his J.D. from Pepperdine School of Law in 1988 and has been a member of the California State Bar since 1980. He also has a masters degree from the University of Southern California. He is the faculty director for Duke University’s “Duke in LA” program at USC and is also an adjunct professor at Cal State Fullerton.
